www.yahoo.com/entertainment/michael-gambon-actor-played-prof-115256583.htmlMichael Gambon's career will forever be defined by his portrayal of Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. He took on the role under very difficult circumstances, having had to replace Richard Harris, who played Dumbledore in the first two installments of the series. The third film "Prisoner of Azkaban" is really a case study in production excellence because this film was an inflection point for the entire series. If this one didn't work, it was curtains. Not only did they have to replace Harris, they also replaced Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two, with Alfonso Cuaron, who at the time only had two other films under his belt. Naturally, they smoked it out of the park. Gambon was so good in the role that most people forget Harris was even in the first two. No knock on Harris, as Dumbledore was not as big a part of the story in the first two installments as he was in the later ones. Potterheads worldwide are universally bummed today, at least the sane ones who still think that women are women and men are men.

Sir Ralph Richardson once dubbed him "The Great Gambon," which is a pretty good compliment coming from an actor as good as Richardson. RIP

I still have to see that one.... Worth it. It's the movie that landed Craig the Bond role.
