EVEN as movie after movie bombs and people desert their theme parks, Disney faces an even bigger disaster as their streaming numbers for Disney+ continue to crash. It's becoming ever more clear that not only isn't Disney+ making money, it will likely never make money.
And believe it or not, Disney lied about that to investors who - get this - are unhappy about it:
"Investors Sue Disney Over Alleged Chapek Era “Cost-Shifting Scheme” to Hide Streaming Losses
The entertainment giant faces a host of litigation dealing with efforts to boost subscriptions for its streaming service.
As Disney stock hovers at its lowest levels in nearly a decade, the company was hit with another lawsuit alleging it misled investors about the success of Disney+ by concealing the true costs of operating the platform.
The suit claims that company executives hid the expense and difficulty of maintaining subscriber growth as it suffered “staggering costs” to create content." ----------------------------------
What's astounding about all of this is that out of the box, Disney had a hundred years worth of beloved movies as a foundation. It then bought 20th Century Fox, which added to that already massive content.
In other words, Disney need not have done anything, produce zero new exclusive to streaming content, and they should have made money hand over fist.
That they chose to not only produce expensive content they didn't need too, virtually everything outside of THE MANDARLORIAN was complete dreck. WILLOW so bad that Disney removed it completely, never to be seen again. They just killed 2 completed series before they even aired, again presumably so they can claim a tax loss.
Disney has managed to kill STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, and now THE AVENGERS - some of the biggest IPs in the history of man in the past 5 years with zero sign that anything's changed. Their unreleased movies look to be even worse - SNOW WHITE is already completely radio-active and doomed, while Ms MARVEL 2 looks to loose even more.
Until every single person in management fired - literally every single one - Disney has no chance of recovery... something that investors have finally woken up to.

Dude, when they go into discovery, they're going to have to reveal those streaming numbers. The second that happens, any company that does streaming is going to get a call from their investors. It could sink the entire streaming market.

Dude, when they go into discovery, they're going to have to reveal those streaming numbers. The second that happens, any company that does streaming is going to get a call from their investors. It could sink the entire streaming market.
And speaking of just that issue, this is a story from today....
"Analyst Declares “The Walt Disney Company Media Spin Machine Is In Full Force” After Company Claimed ‘Ahsoka’ Brought In 14 Million Views Globally For First Episode
"The official StarWars.com website announced in a blog post, “Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company are thrilled and humbled to announce that Part One of Ahsoka, “Master and Apprentice,” was the most-watched title on Disney+ this past week.
[Disney claims] The debut episode garnered 14 million views, making the series number one globally on the streaming platform.” ----------------------------------
But those numbers appear to be a total fantasy:
"This post came after it was reported by third party data tracking firm Samba TV that Ahsoka’s viewership in the United States was far worse than previous Star Wars Disney+ series with the exception of Andor.
“Samba TV reported Ahsoka was only watched by 1.2 million U.S. households over its first six days.” --------------------------------
Because Disney does not actually report the real numbers (despite being a publicly traded company), third parties with no skin in the game try to figure it out.
Disney likely conflated the viewership numbers by saying that 4 (14?) people per household watched the show at the same time (which is how Amazon tried juicing the number of viewers for LORD OF THE RINGS), and/or are counting more than the 6 days worth of viewers.
Either way if true then not only is Disney's brass lying, they're telling mammoth, impossible to hide, lies.
But let's assume for second the number of viewers is actually 14 million - that's still a horrifically low number of views considering there's 7 billion potential viewers for the world's most famous franchise, and more importantly youtube streamers get a couple of million views a day at the expense of sitting in front of camera for 10 minutes....
...The budget for Ahsoka is guesstimated to be $100,000,000. (no wonder Disney won't confirm)
Throw into that calculation that the middling quality show (and I'm being generous by calling it middling) further degrades a franchise where people once stood in line for a week to get into, and Disney is only hurting future desire to see any new movies (even if they were good, which of course is highly doubtful).
Simply put, even if the quality of the shows and movies were significantly better, the entire business model seems doomed from the start. A fact which the brass won't be able to hide for much longer.

By way of comparison: Garand Thumb's videos on YouTube routinely exceed 1 million views per video in a period of less than 30 days.

Exactly. It's quite possible that they don't match 2 months worth of his, or any other popular, youtuber.
Now part of the problem isn't Disney's doing - youtube & tiktok are murdering traditional viewing habits. Throw in ever more detailed and "real" video games, and all traditional entertainment is facing stiff competition.
All the more reason not to alienate half of all viewers with ridiculously divorced from sanity political stances; all the more reason to demand that the people who actually make the movies are making good ones.
