AS the war in Ukraine continues to wage on, it threatens to spill outside of the borders and spread into a world-wide event.
Although it was not reported by any of the nightly news organizations - because reasons - last week President Joe Biden threatened nuclear Armageddon if Russia uses nukes in Ukraine (he literally used the word "Armageddon"), despite the Ukraine not belonging to NATO, or in fact having any sort of formal agreement between the US & the Ukraine to protect them at all costs.
“We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis." Biden suggested the threat from Putin is real “because his military is — you might say — significantly under performing.”
The fact that the press completely ignored this significant step closer to atomic warfare is doubly puzzling as the same press only 2 years ago beat a constant drum that Trump was going to start a nuclear war, without a shred of evidence of such or a proxy war happening in Ukraine (claims made doubly bizarre because of their simultaneous insistence that Trump was a pawn of Putin).
Also not widely reported, and certainly not in terms that would awaken the public to the truth, the press has largely ignored the fact that the US is fighting a proxy war with Russia - simply put, without the billions spent (although much of that money has to places unknown, but that is another story) & arms provided, the Ukraine would have folded months ago.
The sabotage of the Nordstream pipeline from Russia to Europe 10 days ago - almost certainly done by the US - also pushed the ball closer to doomsday. If you doubt it was the USA behind it, check out the videos of President Biden and his top aides and promising the pipeline would be destroyed if Russia invaded.
3 days ago, the Kerch Bridge connecting Russia and Crimea was bombed, an act which Putin called "terrorism". While that claim is laughable considering it's at war, Russia responded yesterday by using guided missiles to strike over a dozen major cities in Ukraine.
Simply put, there's not much wiggle room left for either side in terms of conventional warfare before it either escalates into nukes, or into other countries - including ours.
And that's because while Congress & the general public are oblivious to our part in a growing war, Putin & Russia is very aware who's funding the show. Putin is aware who blew up his pipe-line. He's aware of Biden's tough talk. He knows the USA is propping up Ukraine.
Now, the US's involvement might actually be a rational policy - indeed, it might be one of the few policies the President has that can be argued is rational. Or rather, was rational when it began. Because as the war begins to spiral out of control, and as we inch ever closer to toe-to-toe nukes, the policy starts to look a whole lot less reasonable.
And again, this is all over the Ukraine, a country which has outlawed political opposition to Zelensky, a country which has active military units wearing Nazi ZZ regalia, a country which steadfastly resisted all interest in joining NATO before Russia invaded.
In other words, it's not England or Germany, or even France. It's not Canada or Mexico - it's a country which even now 99% of Americans could not locate on a map.
Doubt we're getting closer to atomics? Four days ago, the US Dept of Health and Human Services ordered a huge lot of anti-radiation sickness pills, nearly $300 million worth.
The Ukraine handed out radiation pills last week.
Yet nary a peep about any of this on the most watched news shows; completely ignored by all networks except Fox, and that's only because of Tucker Carlson's playing video of Biden promising to cripple the Nordstream pipeline on Feb 7th. Almost exactly 7 months later, that pipeline is no more.
Yesterday's missile strike by Russia willy-nilly into large population centers in the Ukraine is a significant step forward to an even larger war.
So one has to wonder as poll after poll - and democrats themselves - indicate that republicans will win a significant number of seats in the House, Senate, and governorships, is Biden pushing us towards a big war in an effort to delay voting or otherwise sway voters?
Hopefully not, but regardless it's getting very hard to justify the funding of a war that is now sprinting towards the use of nukes. Getting very hard to ignore Biden's... well, let's just call them "gaffes" when we are ever closing to nuclear Armageddon.
Yet that is exactly what mainstream news is doing.
