Another story unnecessarily wokified bombs - I see a pattern here....
"The experts who watch the box office said Lightyear would gross $70 to $85 million domestic and do another $50 to $60 million offshore for a worldwide opening of $135 million.
Instead, the gayed-up Toy Story origin story crash-landed with a $51 million domestic opening and only an additional $34 million offshore, for a pathetic $85.6 million worldwide haul." -------------------------
Given the $200,000,000.00 budget (plus another $100 mil in ads), and it means LIGHTYEAR likely needs to gross $600 million before making money... something it's now very unlikely to do.
So it's yet another bomb from Disney; another franchise ruined for no good reason. A franchise where sexuality was completely absent from yet it's shoe-horned into this film anyway for... reasons.
TOY STORY it should be noted, has always been aimed at very young children. Like 4-10 year olds. Thus any overtly sexual material is going to be viewed negatively by the vast majority of parents out there, including gay ones.
Virtual signalling is almost always going to ring false in a movie, but 100 fold when its aimed at a super young audience.
And let's hope that's all it was, virtual signalling and not as a growing number of critics are saying, grooming.
Little wonder then that the new JURASSIC PARK, which stays on target for its audience (giant lizards eating people in exotic places) crushed LIGHTYEAR.

...And there was no rebound for LIGHTYEAR, which is now the weakest opening Pixar movie ever made:
"Other than Onward (2020) — which doesn’t count because the coronavirus derailed its second weekend — LIGHTYEAR currently holds the record for the worst second-weekend box office dive in Pixar’s 25-year history.
After opening to a disastrous $51 million, in its second weekend, Lightyear earned just $17.7 million, which is a crash of 65 percent." -----------------------------------
Now perhaps it isn't all just woke/broke - no one was clamoring for a Buzz Lightyear movie and they've already made a bunch of these movies - yet, like STAR WARS before it, Disney seems less concerned about what's best for a particular established story than it does about preaching.
And at this point, no one's looking to be lectured by a cartoon. Which you'd think Disney would know by now.

"Huh, maybe don't replace me?" See "Van Halen" for details.

Well, there's that too. And I'm fairly certain he was fired for being conservative (at least in Disney's eyes), as opposed to him saying hire someone else.
And how dare you slight the name of one Samuel "Sammy" Hagar! I will never drive 55!
