WELL, not to toot my own horn too loudly, bu my prediction of the Marvel magic being all dried up without the cast of the AVENGERS to buoy them has come true.
First BLACK WIDOW became a super bomb, losing perhaps as much as $200 million after the cost of ads are factored. Now the ETERNALS looks to outdo even that loss, as it was only able to haul in a meager $70 mil domestic this past weekend.
That's the lowest grossing Marvel film yet, and yet more proof that Disney's efforts to spin off other non-AVENGERS flicks are in trouble.
ETERNALS reportedly cost as much as $200, and figure another $100 million for ads, which means the film needs to make something in the neighborhood of $600 just to break even.
It's made $161 mil world wide so far.
Missed it by thiiiiiiiis much. Figure it'll make another $50 to $100 mil total at the box office and from Disney plus, but that might be optimistic as it's also the lowest rated audience score for any MCU movie yet - which means worse that CAPTAIN MARVEL and THOR 2 (shivers). All this despite glowing reports by the usual suspect praising the film - directed by a woman - as "the most diverse MCU movie ever!"
Turns out no one seems to care much about what gender the person who directed is, or how many different ethnicities are represented. Crazily enough, audiences would rather have a good movie than bragging right about diversity.
Who knew? Well, beside everyone not living in Hollywood
This lack of understanding means this movie could lose as much as $300 million.
