FIVE WEEKS ago I predicted that Disney's latest dumpster fire of a movie, THE MARVELS, would super-bomb. Flash forward to now and that prediction has come true. This is the headline from Deadline today:
"‘The Marvels’ Amiss With $110M Global Opening; Lowest Ever For Disney MCU Offshore & WW – International Box Office
The $110.3M global launch estimate includes $63.3M from the international box office in 51 material markets, and $47M from domestic." -----------------------------
Read that again - it grossed less then $50 million in the states.
This is the latest, and perhaps biggest, Disney bomb of them all, and not just for the perhaps $350 million loss as it means that they've effectively killed the Golden Goose of the MCU.
At a cost of approx $300 million to make, and at least another $100 mil in ads (ads which hilariously tried linking this dog turd to THE AVENGERS), THE MARVELS means that Disney will have managed to lose something like a billion and a half dollars in less than 5 years time.
That's "billion" with a "B".
If that weren't bad enough, Disney also managed to kill off Marvel, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars as effective, money-making, franchises. All while their amusements parks and on-line service bleed money.
In complete seriousness, it would have been less damaging to the company to simply have lit a billion and a half dollars on fire ala the Joker with a can of gas then to have released these awful movies b/c at least the franchises would still be alive.
Disney has tried a last minute ad blast to save THE MARVELS - I saw ads on every station and on every youtube video I watched last week - all to no avail. Beyond super-hero exhaustion, THE MARVELS is an awful, "how the hell did this ever get green-lit?" movie filled with the silliest of woke ideas, populated by even sillier actors with little to no talent (unless you count alienating at least half the country as a talent).
THE MARVELS may well prove to be the final nail in the coffin for Disney, which a mere 5 years was an unstoppable money machine, the biggest producer of content on earth by a wide margin. That's all gone now, a victim of insane political/social stances and horrendously bad dreck which completely turned its back on what got them there in the first place.
Simply put - they killed STAR WARS, the best IP in the world.
Look for another round of massive firings and for Disney to start selling off it's assets like 20th Century Fox and ESPN (not that anyone would buy ESPN) as they desperately try to stay above water.
Not that it will change anything - wokesters at Disney like Kathleen Kennedy have permanently and forever damaged a century's worth of hard work and good will and for the next generation will be utterly radioactive to at least half the country.
Even if they started churning out good content - incredibly unlikely because (insanely) no one has yet to be fired - most will still turn their backs on a company which thought hiring a man with a mustache and sensible shoes to play Snow White in it's park was a good idea.
I think I see what the problem might be....

Well, now we know why the director of this turd burger went running out of the door during post - there was no saving it. It's now only a matter of time before Disney declares bankruptcy - there's no white knight coming to save them... in part because they've managed to vilify being white, being male, and any concept of chivalry. Because girrrrrrrrl power! (or something) It turns out that overt racism, sexism, and promoting a wildly dubious set of morals isn't just a huge negative here - Disney movies are bombing all over the world. What's even crazier is that Disney has known all this for some time now and continues on anyway. As a reminder of all this, remember that this year Disney cancelled two completed series before they hit the air, and has moved the release dates back for SNOW WHITE and the next BLADE movie after disastrous screenings and revelations that the plots of those movies are - get this - more of the same silly worst-of-the-wokeism crap that's already sank the company into laughing stock status.
Still doubt that? The newest show on Disney+ is CULPRITS, a show about a black gay couple, one of who is a felon who's past threatens to catch up with him.
Gee, I bet parents all across the country can't wait to show this to their kids!
I mean, I love gay black porn as much as the next guy, but is this really the type of content that should be on a network aimed at children?
IF YOU ANSWERED NO THEN YOU ARE RACIST HOMOPHOBE WHO SHOULD BE ASHAMED. At least that seems to be Disney's position.
The on set pics of SNOW WHITE look like a porn parody, which shockingly got the movie roasted on the internet. As a quick aside, it is possible to produce woke or progressive content without sucking. The original STAR TREK was incredibly woke for its time, as is the newest version BRAVE NEW WORLDS. Both are great. GENERATION V (a THE BOYS spin-off) is often woke, but it's also good. You can have progressive themes/characters without murdering the over-all story; without alienating all but the most rabid die-hards. But it's clear that Disney cared not one wit for quality, but only about posturing and preening. It's seeped into every company they own; every show they produce. And the end result is indisputable - total disaster. If they survive 2024 it will be a miracle, and if it does its value will be slashed to below that of Troma. If you own Disney stock, sell now while you still can.
So... no more Mickey Mouse cartoons I guess?

I forgot to mention that CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 - which does not star Chris Evans, but rather Anthony Mackie - has also been pushed back a year after 3 to 4 months worth of re-shoots have been scheduled after a disastrous set of screenings. Mackie has said that the Tupac Shakur song "Hit 'Em Up" represented his portrayal of Wilson for the film. Let me give you a few lines of said song: "(Sucka-ass) I ain't got no mothafucking friends What y'all niggas talking about? Hell yeah I'ma do this mothafucking track And they know exactly who I'm talking about, too, you old bitch-made niggas 'Cause uh, niggas talk plenty shit, so many tricks I fucked your bitch 'cause I'm true to this, witness the hit You talk bad 'bout a nigga when I got blasted Hope you made a little money while the funk lasted Heard they call you Big Poppa nigga, how you figure?" --------------- Yes, nothing says "Captain America" and "Walt Disney" and "super hero" then those lyrics and a character drawn on from them. 3-4 months is how long a normal movie takes to shoot. So they are, essentially, remaking the entire film before it's even released. Not that re-shoots will help - crazily enough, fans paying $12.50 a ticket to see a Captain America film want to see the guy who played Captain America. Nutty, huh? And all that despite getting inspiration from Tupac. What is the world coming to? But considering that people got in for free for the screenings, you'd think they would quickly be won over if the movie was actually any good. Obviously, it was not.
That might be because the movie was reportedly one long tirade about how bad Trump is and other political preaching which is course is what everyone wants to see in a super hero movie.
Well, that and Captain America based on Tupac who, oddly enough, was himself unable to stop any bullets.
Dinsey's latest money pit is not scheduled for release in Feb 2025... which means probably long after they have filed for bankruptcy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America:_Brave_New_Worldgenius.com/2pac-hit-em-up-original-version-lyrics

Is there a bottom to this well? Cause I feel like Alice just keeps on falling.

The only bottom is a complete changing of the guard, something that's only likely to happen from bankruptcy and/or a shareholder revolt. It should go without saying that the Walt Disney company probably ought not be producing shows about homosexual trysts gone awry. Or straight trysts for that matter. Watch the shows the company produced from the 1930's through the 2010's - not a hint of what's been produced of late. DRAGONSLAYER, which had a momentary flash of a boob under water, about as close as got to being risque until recently. And DRAGONSLAYER, it should be noted, was a massive bomb. According the 2020 US census, there are slightly less than a million gay couples in this country, which means about .3 percent of the population for those of you from Ann Arbor. That percentage is, naturally, far lower on a world-wide basis as there still large swaths of the planet where homosexuality is punishable by death or imprisonment. Unsurprisingly, Disney films have done particularly poorly in those countries, most important of which is China. Yet Disney, in film after film, continues to pretend/demand that every other person on the planet is gay or trans. Which is of course their right... but it's also the right of people to not buy their products. Which seems not to have occurred to them. Disney movies are not reflecting the reality of the times, but are rather obviously trying to change reality. Call it grooming or wishful thinking or whatever, it's crystal clear that as a business model it is not working. And it's not just pretending that everyone in your neighborhood is gay, it's also the bizarre "all men, but especially straight white men" are bad narrative - a narrative that has completely doomed STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, and the MCU as they - get this! - feature a rather large number of straight white guys doing stuff aggressively. Kooky, huh? A company doesn't lose a billion and a half dollars in 5 year's time because they're making content people want to see. Nothing will change until that's acknowledged, and until the people who brought this company to the brink of doom are shown the door. www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2021/same-sex-couple-households.html

...And it's the biggest disaster in comic book movie (and Marvel) history: "The Marvels debuted with a record -- worst opening for any M-She-U movie ever-- and now breaks another record, biggest second weekend drop, which is quite a trick considering how low the first weekend's takings were." & "In continuing to solidify its reputation as one of the biggest duds to ever hit the silver screen, The Marvels has followed-up its record-breaking opening weekend and first Monday box offices underperformances by posting the worst second weekend box audience drop-off in the history of not just the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but comic book movies as a whole. Per information provided by box office data aggregator The Numbers, The Marvels only managed to pull in $10,200,000 domestically during its second weekend in theaters -- a drop of 78% when compared against its $46,100,859 pull a week prior. As noted above, this figure represents the worst such audience drop-off suffered by any MCU or comic book film, beating out both the respective 69.9% and 74% faced by previous record holders Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Morbius." -------------------------------- Yet no one has been fired. No one fired despite this: " In 2023, Disney managed to knock five flops out of the worst box office failures of all time. In their place are Strange World, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Little Mermaid, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and now The Marvels.
Two of those films (Indy and Marvels) are the top two flops of all cinematic history -- and it isn't even close. And guess what, folks? Wish is coming out to lackluster reviews this Wednesday." -------------------------------------
So to recap - no one has been fired.
Lastly, their newest money pit WISH is getting average to shit reviews. So yeah.

I was going to describe this as a "Firehose of shit pointed at the mouths of the public", but this is more like the "Mount St. Helens of Shit", exploding all over the world. Rivers of red-hot shit-magma spewing everywhere, forever burning Disney to the ground.
It's the perfect time to remind everyone that SP saw it coming long ago...

How indeed. A virtual money printing machine. You could have rode this train for decades. All you had to do was not suck. Just stand on the shoulders of genius and rake in the dough.
But you just couldn't do it, could you?
You just couldn't leave it alone. You had to make a 'statement'. A dumb statement. Then had the sightless audacity to slam the fans as if THEY were the problem.
To quote Robert Mitchum: THEY'RE PAYING YOUR SALARY, YOU ASS!!

The rejection of "alpha males" has been particularly stupid. News flash for Disney - STAR WARS is basically Flash Gordon with eastern mysticism. Marvel comic book movies are, well, comic book movies.
Both essentially aimed at teen-age boys. Obviously, the exact group Disney hates most.
Throw in credible allegations of child grooming and pushing children to get sex changes, and it's been the perfect storm of shit.

And it's officially the biggest bomb in MCU history: "There's nothing heroic about the final box office performance of "The Marvels." The superhero sequel is officially the lowest-grossing installment in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After four weeks on the big screen, the comic book tentpole is running out of steam with $80 million in North America and $197 million globally. There would typically be optimism that attendance could rebound over the busy holiday season, but Disney apparently doesn't expect that to be the case because it won't be reporting the film's weekend box office results any longer. The studio wrote on Sunday in a note to press, "With 'The Marvels' box office now winding down, we will stop weekend reporting of international/global grosses on this title." ----------------------------
Last week, current Disney CEO Bob Iger blamed covid restrictions for the radioactively stupid movie that somehow didn't catch fire with viewers:
"″'The Marvels' was shot during COVID," Iger, 72, said. "There wasn't as much supervision on the set, so to speak, where we have executives [that are] really looking over what's being done day after day after day."
Sure Bob, sure.
Also, way to throw everyone under the bus except the person who greenlit this piece of shit... hey, wasn't that person you Bob?
