Kevin Conroy, the long-time voice of Batman and Bruce Wayne in film and TV, passed at age 66 after battling cancer. An irreplaceable loss, Conroy's voice defined Batman in animation and beyond at a time when live-action film and TV floundered in their attempts to depict the character.
Wow - just reading this crappy news. In many ways, the cartoon version Conroy stared in remains the best of all of them, in no small measure b/c he's the Bat. MASK OF THE PHANTASM is still a great movie all these later.
As great as Keaton, Bayle, and Pattinson are in the role (each has their charms), for many people (myself included), Conroy remains the definitive actor in the part. So good that I would have bought him in a live action version....
Oddly enough, many people also consider Mark Hamil to be the greatest Joker of all time as well, an indication of the talent assembled for the show.
There was simply no other animated show like it, and there hasn't been one like it since. It stands alone, not just as some of the highest quality animation shows, but one of the greatest crime shows ever made.
