This news has shaken me a bit. Hurt was 2nd only to Harrison Ford in the '80's for romantic lead actors. Starting w/ the still trippy ALTERED STATES, Hurt had a series of great performances - BODY HEAT, THE BIG CHILL, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN, CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD, BROADCAST NEWS - all excellent movies made better because he was in them. His star faded fast as he entered the '90's - he seemed perfectly willing to transition into non-romantic leads; essentially allowing himself to grow old (no toupee, hair dye, yada) - becoming a supporting actor. He was good in these fatherly types rolls too in everything from the under-rated LOST IN SPACE to THE VILLAGE. In the mid 2000's and beyond he'd excel as a general in 5 Marvel/AVENGER movies. RIP

Bro, I forgot he was in Body Heat. That was a pretty controversial film when it came out. That was Kathleen Turner's first, I think.
Can they even MAKE Broadcast News now?
